OUR HERITAGE

THE STORY

In 1954, Runyan Christian School moved from the little schoolhouse on Runyan Campgrounds to a recently built campus on the corner of Second Street and Buckeye Street in downtown North Little Rock. This new campus, which held both Buckeye Christian School and the First Pentecostal Church, continued as the church campus until a fire destroyed it in the summer of 1970. For the following two school terms, most of Buckeye Christian School’s students transferred to another private school in North Little Rock - Northside Academy on Smokey Lane. A temporary school was established on the campus of Lakeview Children’s Home until a new location was built at #1 52nd Place in the Park Hill district of North Little Rock.

In 1992, after forty years of Buckeye Christian School, a historic relocation and renaming occurred. The First Pentecostal Church relocated to a new campus on Interstate 40 and the access road - Calvary Road, creating the means for a new title - Calvary Academy!

Calvary Academy has grown from the pre-used schoolhouse on a country campground to a well-respected institution in North Little Rock. The leaders of Calvary Academy today remain in the vision of training students to live in purpose and integrity, just as our founders did.
